Term 4 Week 10
Mr Nick Dargusch / Deputy Principal
At the end of every year, I marvel at what we have been able to achieve as a school, in terms of the great learning opportunities and outcomes for our students. It is always a huge undertaking, which would not be possible without the exceptional dedication from teachers and all other staff, parents, volunteers and of course our hardworking students.
The one thing I notice each day are the smiling faces and positive attitudes of the students. They skip into school, ready for learning and fun with their friends. Such well-rounded children, enjoying the opportunities, which are presented to them on a daily basis. This doesn’t happen just by chance. I have experienced many schools where this does not exist, for one reason or another. What I can say is that only through the valuable partnerships we forge together between home and school will this culture continue to be evident.
I cannot thank enough the wonderful parents who assist across the school in so many ways, from the P&C exec/members to the army of volunteers who work in and across our school on a weekly basis. You all know who you are, it is a testament to why we have such successful, well-rounded students. This year we began implementing a transdisciplinary curriculum based on an inquiry model, exploring what our students are passionate about, so they are engaged and inspired to learn.
I particularly want to thank the students who have fulfilled leadership roles across the school this year. You have done yourselves proud in your conduct and fulfilment of the role. I want to make particular mention of the School Captains – Dylan, Amalie, Olivia and Jayden. I have worked closely with these students all year and have thoroughly enjoyed watching them grow and flourish as leaders.
Congratulations to the School Captains for 2024 – Dalton, Yagyaa, Aaradhya and Caleb. I know they will do a wonderful job.
It was also wonderful to catch up with so many parents at our concert and graduation this week. As always, it is great to have the school community together to end another successful year.
As always, we need to acknowledge the work of staff who are saying farewell. We are fortunate to have a team of highly skilled and capable educators here at Brisbane Central. They all make a positive difference to the lives of the students they teach and for that we are eternally grateful. Leaving BCSS this year are the following staff:
Ms Winther, Ms Hoffman and Mr Waugh.
I need to take a moment to acknowledge the work of Mr Waugh. Darren has been teaching for 35 years and in that time has made a significant contribution to the schools he has worked in across the state and more importantly to the lives of the students he has taught. Teaching is a tough, yet rewarding job and to do so for 35 years is no small feat. We thank you Darren for your contribution to state schooling and particularly to our school.
Taking extended leave in 2024 will be Ms Thomas, Ms Van Dyason, Ms Pafflin and Mr Perkins.
Returning to BCSS and joining BCSS will be Ms Desai, Ms McMahon, Ms Heslip, Mrs Lim, Mrs King and Mr Easterbrook.
Attached to the newsletter this week is our class teacher lists for 2024. You will receive an email on Thursday 18 January notifying you of which class your child will be in for the new school year.
I wish you all the very best for a safe, relaxing summer holiday period. Farewell to those who are leaving Windsor for various reasons. I am sure that our paths will cross again in the future. You will always be a part of the Windsor Family.
Have a wonderful Christmas break and I look forward to seeing you again when school resumes on Monday 22 January 2024.

PBL Celebration Day - School Fun Run
On Friday the 24th of November students took part in an adventure fill obstacle course while being soaked with super soakers and squirted with a rainbow of colour. All students had a fabulous time especially when some got the chance to bucket dunk a staff member of their choice.

Library News
Library Assist
When John Heywood first penned the phrase “many hands make light work” little did he know how true this would be for our library books. We requested help from parents to volunteer to help mend and cover the library current and new books on a Wednesday afternoon between 2.15 pm and 3.00 pm.
First there were two volunteers, then five, then seven and then eleven and the books have heard that there are other parents who will be joining this dynamic group in 2024.
Thank You Miss Divia for coordinating this weekly event in the library Media Room and for the volunteers who made an immense and very flash difference to the library books.
Picture Book Writing/Publisher Workshop
To encourage your children to read and write original stories the publisher of the children’s book ‘True Blue Christmas’ by Glenda Gabrielle presented a Picture Book Writing and Publishing Workshop during the students regular library lesson.
The children had to predict the storyline of the book by viewing the original artwork of the book. They viewed the black lined drawings and coloured pictures without any words. Students then read the book aloud to each other in small groups with each student taking a turn. Groups discussed how the language features, images and vocabulary choices created different effects in the book.
The children were able to appreciate the message of the book.
By sharing our knowledge and goodwill we form
creative, unified teams and achieve our goals.
A demonstration of how the 32 pages of a children’s book is printed - 2 sheets with 16 pages of the book on each side of the sheet. These sheets were folded into a book and the cover added. Since the sheets present the pictures of the book out of sequence the children were very surprised to see it fold together and be in order.
The highlight of the workshop was when the children chose to either make a ‘True Blue Christmas’ or an ‘Australian Flora or Fauna’ stick spinner from any character in the book.
Prep Red
Using the knowledge of shapes prep's used spaghetti and marshmellow to build delicious towers.
Yr4 Green
Maisie from Yr.4 green celebrated Hanukah by playing Dreidel on the flute and playing the game.
Gelt was shared amongst her class.
