Mr Micheal Grogan
Welcome back. I would like to begin officially welcoming all of our new students and families, I trust that you have all had a positive experience so far at our great school. I would also like to extend a very warm welcome back to all of our continuing families.
Our current enrolment is 507 students across our 22 classes. A list of our teaching staff for 2024 is listed below.
Classrooms are well and truly into their daily routines and engaged in the curriculum. Please make sure you purchase all items on the year level book list to allow for class routines to run smoothly.
Welcome to our New and Returning Staff
Our new teachers for 2024 are Shiobhan Lim, Chantel King, Keiren Abel, Heidi Everingham and Joshua Easterbrook and we welcome back Misha Desai and Sophie MacMahon.
We are very fortunate to have been able to recruit such a diverse, experienced and highly capable group to join our expert teaching team here at BCSS.
I am pleased to say that all of our staff have settled back into school well and are already making positive contributions to the learning of our students.
Assemblies
Assemblies this year will begin on February 9th and will include introducing our Student Representative Council to our school community. In 2024 we will continue with whole assemblies each fortnight. This year they will be in the odd weeks of each term.
Pick Up and Drop Off Routines
I would like to thank everyone for your patience, consideration and support as we have started the new school year. The Pick Up and Drop Off times are getting better by the day as we all begin to learn the new routines and locations. For 2024 we are asking all students who are travelling by car to come to Gate 6 in the afternoons.
2024 Student Leaders
At the end of 2023 we selected our School Leaders for 2024. Today we held our Leadership Investiture and had the pleasure of welcoming Councilor Vicki Howard to our school to help with the induction. We would also like to thank and acknowledge Hon Grace Grace for her ongoing support for our student leaders.
I would like to extend a warm congratulations to all of our student leaders and also to all of the students who nominated. We are extremely lucky here at Brisbane Central to have a student body who all demonstrate leadership qualities in multiple ways every day. This contributes to the success our school leaders have in their roles each year and ensures that our younger students always have appositive example to aspire to.

Parents & Citizens Association
Our first P&C meeting will be held on Monday 12 February. It would be great to see as many parents and community members as possible come along and I am sure everyone will make a positive contribution to our school. We have a great P&C and it can only be enhanced by the active involvement of all of our parents and families.
This year our P&C is looking for Parent Year Level representatives to assist with coordinating one event for the year for each year level.
Mr Nick Dargusch / Deputy Principal
Welcome back everyone. Welcome to all our new families.
We have many new faces around the school. It has been a hot start to 2024 and I know that teachers have all been busy welcoming our new students into their classroom routines and expectations. As we move towards embedding our daily routines, we all want our children to have a safe, healthy and fulfilling school expereince.
For young people fulfilment is created by being actively engaged in learning.
Most students with higher resilience levels value success for themselves, are motivated to learn, report feeling highly engaged in school, have good levels of social skills and don't think violence is a good way of solving problems.
Here are 10 ways to encourage your child's learning according to Dr Andrew Wicking:
10 tips for encouraging your child’s learning
- Involve your child in extra-curricular activities such as sports teams, performing arts, debating;
- Model the value of learning by learning new things too;
- Take an active interest in your child's homework and schooling;
- Encourage your child to complete their homework each night;
- Talk to them about their schoolwork and do some tasks with them;
- Encourage your child to care about their school friends and care about school;
- Join your child in reading for pleasure; talk about books, films and ideas that interest them;
- Develop a positive view of their future life and connect this with their schoolwork;
- Set high standards and expectations for your child;
- Teach them new practical skills such as cooking, washing, managing money, gardening.
Leader’s Investiture
Congratulations to our 2024 Student Leaders who were inducted into the Student leadership team. These 22 students take on a new level of responsibility and will equip them with skills they will carry on into their future schooling. We look forward to seeing and hearing their ideas on how to improve the schooling experience of all students at BCSS.
Playgroup
We welcomed back our first group of young students and families to BCSS Playgroup this morning. Ms Maile had a very energetic and excited group of young learners and we look forward to welcoming many more eager learners through our doors.
PBL Newsletter
Prep Red
Prep Red have been having so much fun in our first 2 weeks of school. We enjoy beginning each day with our good morning song and dance, practising our counting whilst exercising, playing in the Prep Playground and participating in mindfulness activities in the classroom to help us focus and get ready for learning.
This week we have been focusing on developing our fine motor skills. This includes practising our pencil grip as we learn to write our names, learning how to cut with scissors and practising using glue. During our art lesson this week we used our imaginations to create Prep Red creatures. Our creatures were created using a range of different materials including ribbon, paper, wool, sequin stars and googly eyes. Learning is fun in Prep Red!
