Week 8 Newsletter
Principal - Micheal Grogan

Hello and welcome to our week 8 Newsletter. There is a lot of exciting events coming up over the next two weeks as we head towards the winter break. Two of my favourite days of the year in the Junior and Senior Athletics carnivals are coming up. These are always great days and wonderful opportunities for our students and school community to come together and support one another to do our very best.
We also have our Year 4 students attending camp in week 10. This is a big moment for many of our
Year 4 students and their families as it is often the first time that they have been away from family or friends overnight. Our teachers do an amazing job coordinating these events and I am sure our Year 4 students will once again have an amazing few days at Camp Tuchekoi. For those interested in our Camps program, I would encourage to view our 2024 Camps Newsletter https://brisbanecss.schoolzineplus.com/enews?nid=19.
Playground and Tuckshop Upgrades Program – Brisbane Central State School
I am pleased to advise that our school has been successful in receiving funding through the Eat Right, Play Right, Learn Well initiative. Our application for playground funding has been assessed under Tranche 3 as meeting the program guideline requirements and we have been approved a funding allocation of $250,370.
Soon we will begin the process of planning, designing and then installing. I will provide updates as soon as we begin the process in earnest and am sure that our students are looking forward to having an input into this exciting opportunity for our school.
Gala Days
Our students once again represented our school and themselves with pride at the recent Sports Gala Days. I would like to acknowledge the work of Mr Lane and all of our Year 4-6 teaching staff and Miss Maile for their support of our student’s participation in this important sporting program.
If your child is yet to return their Gala Day Sports Shirt, we ask it is returned to their teacher by Tuesday June 11.
P&C Meeting
We have our next P&C meeting on Monday June 10. I would encourage all of you to come along or log in via Teams to contribute to our P&C. We have a small and dedicated group who coordinate the daily functions of the P&C and they are always looking for new people to support and contribute in any way you think you could help.
Staffing Changes
Next term we will welcome back Madame Kasim who is returning from Long Service Leave.
Mr. Davis will be beginning his semester long leave at the beginning of next term. Mr. Walter Yoia will be joining us as Technologies teacher for semester two. Mr. Yoia joins us from Oakleigh State School
Mr. McKee will also be taking leave next semester and will be replaced by Mr. Anthony Kleidon. Mr. Kleidon is joining us from Craigsleigh State School. We are fortunate to be having two experienced and skilled educators joining our staff from July.
We wish Mr Davis and Mr McKee all the best and look forward to welcoming them both back upon the conclusion of their leave.
Deputy - Maureen Kelly

School report cards are issued at the end of each Semester, June and December, and involves communicating information to parents, carers and students about student achievement and progress for each learning area/subject undertaken, at a point in time. Teachers report to parents on student achievement against the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards for each learning area.
School reporting includes:
- the learning expectations for the student
- the student’s achievement against expected standards
- how well the student is engaging with the expected learning through effort and behaviour information
- learning strengths and how the student may be able to improve
Our reporting is designed to inform families by describing the individual student’s journey towards, at or beyond the standard. The level of achievement is communicated to the parents through a 5-point scale. This is described on the front of the report card.
Aspects of our reporting are listed below:
- Each subject area has a learning statement which outlines the learning that has been the focus for the class during the semester.
- The five-point scale in which students are measured against indicates the level of mastery in these assessable elements of the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standard.
- One identified learning strength from the current semester is recorded and one identified opportunity for target teaching in the following semester.
- The strength communicates that the student was stronger in this rather than in other areas of demonstrated ability. It is his personal area of strength at, below or beyond the standard.
- If your child is receiving additional supports from our English as an Additional Language or Dialect team and/or your child has limited Standard Australian English to a level that inhibits their access to teaching and learning, then they will receive an ‘N’ in English and, on a case by case basis, in other subject areas also. These students will have English reporting comments using the English as an Additional Language or Dialect Bandscales rather than the Achievement Standard to reflect their achievement in the area of language development.
The semester one report cards will be emailed home on Friday 21 June. In preparation for this, we ask all parents to ensure that they add Application.ONESCHOOL@qed.qld.gov.au to the list of safe senders to ensure report card emails are not sent to the email Junk folder. The reports will be sent to the email address we have on record. If you do not receive your child's report on the designated day, we ask you first check your Junk folder before contacting the school to request the report. Requests relating to your child's report should be sent to the principal, Mr. Grogan via email (principal@brisbanecentralss.eq.edu.au). Any questions about the content of your child's report should be directed to your child's teacher in the first instance.

Religious Instruction
Greetings, parents and friends!
The Christian RI Senior Group had a long 'holiday' (no class) for 4 weeks due to sports day on last 4 Fridays. Class will resume in June.
The Junior Group had Unit 3 (4 lessons) on what kind of King Jesus is. He is so different. He is humble, serving and loving. Most importantly, Jesus doesn’t stay dead. He appears to his disciples and they worship him as he truly is - the living king who rules over all. Jesus instructs his friends to share the good news about who he is with others in the world. We all learn to be humble, kind and loving to our family and friends.
Dear Parents, The CRI Class is an enriching environment for kids to question, explore and discover life issues in the context of the Christian faith. From Term 3, we welcome new students to join the CRI (Christian Religious Instruction) class. Please sign the School Form and return to School Office.
See your children joining our Class in Term 3!
