FVSSC Orientation Day
From the Principal - Micheal Grogan
Dear Parents and Carers
As we begin the final term of the year, we always have an eye on the future. The school is busily planning our end of year events and milestone moments for our graduating year 6 students. The end of Term 4 is always a chance to reflect and celebrate. I would encourage you to try to come along to all of the whole school events as we both acknowledge our students and see the great things they are capable of.
This week we had another round of Prep 2025 enrolment interviews. It is always great to meet the new families and see the looks of excitement on the faces of young people as they start to get ready for school. In the coming weeks we will have further rounds of interviews and our all-important transition events on November 8 and 22. If you have yet to enrol your child, we encourage you to do so as soon as you can.
Year 6 Canberra Trip
Next week I will be away in Canberra with our Year 6 students along with Ms Everingham and Mr Kleidon. Mr T will be acting Principal for the week in my absence. The trip to Canberra is always a great opportunity to experience and learn about the things that have made Australia the place it is today. Keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram pages for daily updates of our adventures.
2025 Enrolments
Another key aspect of our planning for 2025 is ensuring we have an accurate picture of what enrolments will look like as we approach the new school year. Accurately capturing our new and continuing enrolments is vital to ensuring we can set up our students, staff and community for success in 2025.
It is important for school planning that if you intend on changing schools, you let us know as soon as is possible.
It is also important to remind parents that moving house does not mean you are required to move schools. If you and your child are happy at BCSS, moving from within our existing catchment does not mean you are required to change schools as well.
Deputy Principal - Nikolas Taufatofua
Dear Families,
Welcome back to Term 4! We hope you had a restful break and are ready for an exciting end to the school year. It’s hard to believe we’re already in the final term, but we have so much to look forward to.
Last Friday, our students showcased their talent and teamwork during the Interschool Sport Day (Gala Day). I was able to attend and help out with Girl’s Touch. The day was filled with friendly competition and camaraderie. I was incredibly proud of our students' sportsmanship and dedication, and I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mr Lane and our coaches who made the day possible. It was unfortunate that the grounds were too wet to use today as our students improved significantly throughout the day last Friday.
Tonight, we look forward to the Trivia Night that has been planned by our wonderful P&C! This event is not only a great opportunity to test your knowledge but also a chance to connect with other families and staff.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we dive into this final term. Let’s make it a memorable one for our students!
Warm regards,
Nikolas Taufatofua
Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) Acknowledgement
Students from Year 6 will travelling to Canberra next week and undertaking , an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage, and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding to our school in the amount of $90 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion and has already been passed onto the student prior to invoicing them for this educational tour.
Active School Travel
The Active School Travel Captains will be on the lookout for students actively travelling to school. We will be selecting students to enter the draw to receive a prize each week beginning in week 2.

Consent Management / QParents
Queensland State Schools are moving towards online permissions managed through the QParents app. We believe that moving to digital consent for excursions, SRS and Third Party Consent managed through QParents would be beneficial to all. It would remove the need for paper-based permission forms to be printed, distributed, signed and returned.
Many in our community already have a QParent accounts but for those who do not, invitations have previously been sent out to your registered email addresses. If you require a new invitation please contact the office. By signing up you will not only have access to digital permission forms but also attendance records, finance (view only), positive behaviour and report cards.
We understand that everyone is busy, and we hope that by streamlining our services online where we can, we will better service our community.
Library News
Good Reads from the Students
Our students are recommending books they like to other students. They are trading books after they have been returned at the library ‘Drop and Go’ counter and inspiring other students to read a book or series of books they like to read.
Kahmani-Rose in Prep likes and recommends the book ‘Splat the Cat’ because the cat has a hamster riding his bike and a beautiful red handbag. Ms Nuss enjoyed reading this book.
Anh Do’s Hot Dog ‘Art Time’ Number 8 (PINK) is liked by Matt from Year 2 because it has emotive words like BAM! He likes the characters and that each book comes in a different colour.
This team from Year 3 had very different books to recommend. Enoch recommended ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid – The Third Wheel’ because Greg is funny. However, Sawyer enjoys ‘Horrible Histories’ – Terrible Tudors’ because it has quizzes and is hilarious. Jake thinks you should read ‘Through Time OLYMPICS – from Ancient Greece to the Present Day’ because of all the statistics and the timeline
Jeshmitha from Year 2 not only likes books about Christmas but fairies and Ella Diaries. Her two favourite books for borrowing this week are: ‘Pearlie and the Christmas Angel’ and ‘I love Christmas Fairies’. If you would like a funny and happy book Eden from Year 2 recommends reading ‘Molang the Book of Happy’.
Jasper recommends the book ‘Jasper McFlea will not eat his tea’ to Louis and Louis tells Jasper that ‘Hey Hippopotamus – Do babies eat cake?’ is a good book. Both boys from Prep shared their books. Looks like the Hippo is popular. Titan found ‘Look, there’s a hippopotamus in the playground eating cake’. Word spreads fast about good books. Hiro chose ‘There’s a lion in my cornflakes’ and he thinks everyone should read this book.
Looks like the hippo’s have competition. Oliver from Prep says dog books are the best. He would like you to read ‘Harry the Dirty Dog’ and ‘No Roses for Harry’. Lincoln gave Ahiya the book ‘Don’t call me Bear!’ as a good book to read.
Dork Diaries seem to be a big hit. Charlize from Year 5 likes the Dork Diaries and was talking to her classmates about how the books like ‘Birthday Drama’ have dramatic storylines and brilliant visuals. Julieta was showing ‘Wolf Girl Number 5’ to Aastha and explaining that the Wolf Girl books are good because they have tension and keeps you on the edge of your chair. Aastha was recommending the Harry Potter series because they also have tension especially the book ‘Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince’.
