Term 1, Week 10 2025
Principal's Message - End of Term 1
As we reach the end of Term 1, I want to take a moment to reflect on what has been a challenging but rewarding start to the year. We have navigated the transition of a new Principal, faced the impact of a cyclone, and dealt with continuous bad weather. Despite these challenges, the resilience and strength shown by our staff and students at Brisbane Central State School has been truly inspiring, and I am incredibly proud of their efforts.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our families and the wider community for your continued support during what has been a turbulent term. Your patience and cooperation have been invaluable, and I am grateful to be part of such a supportive school community.
Looking ahead, I will be on leave for the first three weeks of next term, and I am pleased to inform you that Ms. Simone Coogan will be stepping in as Acting Principal during my absence. She visited our school this week and is excited to work with our wonderful students and staff while I am away. I will be taking a much-anticipated trip to Europe with my husband to celebrate my birthday, a journey I’ve had planned for quite some time, and I’m very much looking forward to it.
Thank you again for your ongoing support, and I wish you all a restful and enjoyable break. I look forward to reconnecting with you when I return.

Ramadan Celebrations
This week marks the end of Ramadan, and we would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to all of our Muslim families for their continued faith and dedication during this important time. We admire the strength, perseverance, and commitment shown throughout this sacred month, and we celebrate with you as Ramadan comes to a close.
Wishing all of our Muslim families a joyful and blessed celebration.
Cross Country
A big thank you to Miss Wylie for her organisation of the Cross Country. Due to wet weather, we have made the decision to postpone our Cross Country Carnival.
Years 3-6 Students
The Years 3-6 event will now take place on Wednesday, 23rd April (Week 1, Term 2). We aim to ensure that all Years 3–6 students will have the opportunity to qualify for districts.
In the event that wet weather impacts our new date, Miss Wylie will be sending out a survey to Years 3–6 families. This survey will allow families to provide their children with an opportunity to submit a time for their cross country run over the holidays as a backup option for district qualification.
Years 1-2 Students
For Years 1–2 students, we will now be running the cross country event during their HPE classes at school. Families of students who have already paid will receive a credit to their account.
Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to a fantastic event next term.
Harmony Day Celebration
Last week, our school proudly celebrated Harmony Day, a wonderful opportunity for students to come together and reflect on the importance of inclusivity and diversity. As part of the celebration, students created friendship bracelets to share with someone new in the school community. This heartfelt gesture encouraged our students to connect with others, express gratitude, and embrace the values of respect and belonging.
Harmony Week is a time to recognize Australia’s success as one of the world’s most multicultural societies. It’s a chance to celebrate the richness of cultural and linguistic diversity, united by a shared commitment to core Australian values. At Brisbane Central State School, we are dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all members of our community, including transgender individuals and people with disabilities.
We are incredibly proud of the support we receive from our BCSS community in fostering a culture of respect, belonging, and celebration of our differences. Thank you to everyone for contributing to making this a special and meaningful time for our students!
Prep – Classrooms of Learning
We were thrilled to invite parents into the classrooms to share in the learning experiences of our Preppies. It was a heartwarming sight to see the children beaming with pride as they guided their parents through a variety of activities, with parents equally proud of their little ones.
The classrooms featured engaging group rotations, where children led parents through activities like story retelling, math games, pattern making, and colouring.
This was a special occasion that highlighted the incredible progress our students have made, and we’re certain this is an event that will be cherished by families for some time.

School Watch
School holidays are almost upon us!
During this period empty schools provide an opportunity for criminal activity, becoming targets for unlawful entry, arson, stealing, graffiti and property damage – all of which become a cost to the community.
The School Watch Program is a partnership between Education Queensland, the Queensland Police Service and the State Government Protective Security Service. It aims to reduce criminal activity in Queensland schools and encourages everyone to look out for after-hours crime in our schools. If you see anything suspicious, please don’t attempt to intervene. Call the School Watch number – 13 17 88
Let’s work together to help create safer school communities.
Enjoy your holidays!
