Term 2, Week 4 Newsletter
From the Principal - Cassandra Clarke
It is so good to be back at Brisbane Central. Thank you to Ms Coogan for replacing me while I was on leave.
I wanted to share a photo of one of the favourite places that I visited on my holiday, it was Venice. It was full of beautiful architecture, canals and great gelato! Being able to visit such a special place was an amazing experience.
I look forward to continuing my time here at BCSS and making sure that the rest of the term continues to be full of learning and fun.
Building Positive Behaviours at Brisbane Central through PBL
At Brisbane Central, we are proud to embed the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework into our everyday school practices. This approach helps us to create a safe, respectful and inclusive environment where every student can thrive—socially, emotionally and academically.
PBL is more than just a behaviour strategy; it's a whole-school framework that supports student wellbeing and learning. Through PBL, students are explicitly taught important social and emotional skills, such as recognising and managing their emotions, building positive relationships and handling challenges in constructive ways.
An important part of PBL is the use of restorative practices. When a behaviour concern arises, we respond calmly and respectfully, helping the student feel safe and supported. These moments are seen as opportunities for learning and reflection, rather than punishment. Consequences are designed to help students think about their actions and grow from the experience.
By using the PBL framework, we’re not only supporting positive behaviour but also building strong, respectful relationships and creating a school environment where all students know what is expected of them. At Brisbane Central, we believe that every child deserves to learn in a space where they feel valued, supported and ready to succeed.
Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to nurture the potential of every learner through Positive Behaviour for Learning.
Our teachers create new lessons each week with a focus on an area that develops or reinforces a concept.
The use of ‘Owlies’ cards is used throughout the school as a as a positive reinforcement reward.
Ask your child what PBL lesson they have learnt this week?

Dear Parents and Carers,
Last week was a wonderful celebration of student leadership at our school. Our School Captains proudly represented us at the Student Leadership Day held at Kelvin Grove State School. It was an inspiring event that offered valuable insights and opportunities for our young leaders to connect with peers from across the region, and they returned full of ideas and enthusiasm.
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Miss Stainer for her ongoing dedication and hard work in developing and guiding our student leaders. Her commitment to nurturing leadership skills in our students is truly appreciated and continues to make a meaningful impact on our school community.
A highlight of last week was our special assembly, where we presented leadership awards to our Student Representative Council. It was wonderful to see so many families join us for this occasion. Your support means a great deal to our students and helps reinforce the importance of active, respectful, and responsible leadership.
Thank you again for your continued support.
From Our Head of Curriculum-Maureen Kelly
Each term parents are provided with an overview of the curriculum that the students are learning for that term. These are called the Learning Webs. The Learning Webs also provide key school and class information.
The Learning Webs for the current term are made available on the Brisbane Central State School website. https://brisbanecentralss.eq.edu.au/curriculum/learning-webs
The Learning Webs are also emailed by the class teachers to parents.
What can we do to make the written report cards meaningful for parents?
The Teaching and Learning Reference group will be undertaking consultation with parents and carers over the next few weeks to gain perspectives on how we can best communicate with parents and carers about student and learning and achievement thought the end of semester written reports.
The Teaching and Learning Reference Group is a team made up of staff and parents, formed to gain feedback on and input into school policies and practices developed in line with Department of Education policy for the delivery of the curriculum for all students.
In a few weeks staff and parents will be available before school at the key entry points to the school to listen to your perspectives. An online survey will also be available. We look forward to hearing from many parents.
