Finding the Wins and the Wonder in Our Days
This week, I’ve had the opportunity to attend a Principal’s Program alongside 40 school leaders from across the state. It’s been an inspiring experience, and I wanted to share a few highlights that really stood out to me — ideas that might resonate with you as parents, too. One particularly powerful session was with Natalie Cook, five-time Australian Olympian in beach volleyball. She shared a simple but uplifting message: "What is your winning for today?" It’s a great reminder to look for the positives in our day the little things that went well, the moments we enjoyed, the things that made us smile. It can be easy to focus on what didn’t go right, but shifting our mindset to notice even the small wins can help us feel more positive, present, and ready for whatever comes next. It’s a wonderful question to ask our children, too: What was your win for today? Another session that really made me stop and reflect was about Indigenous perspectives and the concept of finding your "awe" the things that spark your curiosity or make you stop and wonder. We were asked thoughtful questions like:
- When was the last time you walked barefoot through the grass or on the beach?
- When did you last pause just to watch the world go by — noticing the leaves moving in the breeze or the ferries gliding down the river?
These gentle moments remind us to slow down, breathe, and take notice. In doing so, we become more grounded and calmer and better able to take on the next part of our day. As we move through busy school weeks and full family lives, I hope you’re able to find your own little wins and moments of awe — and encourage your children to do the same.
Please keep an eye out for the email next week with more information.
Have a great fortnight. I look forward to seeing you next weekend at our big 150th birthday party!

Dear Families
This morning our school came together for one of the most anticipated events of the year – our Book Week Parade. Despite the rain, the celebration could not be dampened. We gathered in the school library, which proved to be the perfect setting to celebrate our shared love of reading. The joy on students’ faces, the creativity of costumes, and the buzz of excitement made for a truly memorable event.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our dedicated staff for the countless hours spent preparing and organising, to our students for bringing their energy and enthusiasm and to our families for supporting the day in so many ways. It was a wonderful reminder of how special it is when our community comes together to celebrate learning. We were also honoured to be joined by special guests: Councillor Vicki Howard, Grace Grace MP, Madonna Jarrett Member for Brisbane. Their presence was a privilege and added to the sense of occasion.
Looking ahead, the excitement continues with our upcoming 150th Celebration. This is a once-in-a-lifetime milestone for our school and we are preparing an incredible day for the whole community. Families can look forward to stalls, rides, games, delicious food and a wide range of activities that promise fun for all ages. It will be a day to celebrate our history, our people and our bright future together.
We encourage everyone to join us, invite family and friends and spread the word. It’s going to be a celebration to remember, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
Warm regards,
Nikolas Taufatofua

Student Exemptions

If your child needs to be away from school for 10 or more school days in a row—due to illness, travel, or another valid reason—you can apply for an exemption from school attendance. This helps make sure you're not breaking any rules and that the school understands and supports your family’s situation. The process is simple: just talk to your school, fill out a form, and include any documents that explain why your child can’t attend (like a medical certificate or return plane travel tickets). Once approved, the exemption gives you peace of mind knowing your child’s absence is officially recognised. It’s all about working together to do what’s best for your child.
