Term 4, Week 2 Newsletter
Principal's Update Term 4

Welcome to Term 4! It is going to be very busy. It is an exciting term as we conclude 2025 and begin to prepare for 2026.
It is at this time of the year I love seeing how far our students have come with their learning, and how tall they have grown! Our year 6 students will be counting down their primary school days as they transition to high school, this will be a time when they start reflecting and getting nervous for their next big step.

2026 Class Placement – Class Solver Slip
We have begun preparing for the 2026 Class Solver program. As part of this process, students have selected up to 5 friends they would like to be placed with in their class next year. Teachers have guided students to make choices based on who they learn well with in the classroom.
Your child will bring home their list of friendship choices for you to review.
- If you agree with the list, please initial it and return it to the class teacher.
- If you would like to make changes, please write the preferred names in the second column and initial there instead.
All Class Solver Slips must be returned by Friday, 24th October, to allow time for teachers to enter the information.
Staff Updates
- We welcome Ms Amy Manu, as our new Admin Officer
- Welcome back Ms Chen to Prep
- Mrs O’Connell is currently on leave. She is being replace by Ms Casey Chen. Mrs O’Connell will be back in week 5.
- Ms Stainer will return from her leave next week
Gardening
Once again, Mr Kleidon and his band of green thumbs have been planting more native plants in our school, and they look fantastic. These plants are from the Brisbane City Council as a part of the Arbour Day celebrations.

School Opinion Survey
Thank you to those families who have already participated in the 2025 School Opinion Survey. The information received from families allows us to reflect and continue to refine and grow our school. The time you generously give to complete the survey is so appreciated.
Here are snap shot of the results:

Playgrounds

Our Year 4 and 5 playground is finished and was opened on Tuesday.
It is an additional play space for these students to climb and balance on. This was the start of the work…
New Basketball Courts

Over the holidays, the concrete was poured for the new Basketball court. In another 2 weeks, work will recommence with a small retaining wall to be built against the black fence, surfacing of the courts, and then the line marking. I have been told, that this should take about 3 weeks to complete, depending on weather.
Enrolments for the 2026 Prep Program are Now Open

I am encouraging all Brisbane Central families who have children who are age appropriate for the Prep program next year to complete their application package to allow us to commence planning for the 2026 school year as early as possible.

Many thanks for the support you provide our Brisbane Central children to be excited, energised and enthusiastic about school and their learning.
Mrs Cassandra Clarke
Principal
Deputy Principal Nik Taufatofua

Welcome back to Term 4! I hope everyone had a restful break and is ready for another exciting term ahead.
A big thank you to all our parents and carers for being so proactive in completing the necessary requirements to ensure students were able to participate in GALA Days and proudly represent our school in baseball, touch and cricket. Your support makes these experiences possible. A special thanks once again to Miss Wylie for her outstanding organisation and commitment to ensuring our students could take part in these events. I’ve really enjoyed attending baseball and cheering on many of our students — their enthusiasm and sportsmanship have been fantastic to see.
Last week, Mr Darke and I had the privilege of attending the City Collective Student Leadership Showcase at Queensland Academies Creative Industries. Our school captains represented our community with pride and professionalism as they shared their leadership journey in developing our new school song, the 2025 Legacy Project – “The Meeting of the Rivers.” It was an inspiring afternoon that highlighted their creativity, teamwork and leadership growth. We were very fortunate to have our leadership mentors from Fortitude Valley State School attend and support our captains on the day. A special thank you to Miss Stainer for her incredible work in supporting and guiding our student leaders throughout the year.
This week, we also close applications for our 2026 prospective student leaders. Mrs Clarke and I are very much looking forward to meeting with candidates over the coming weeks as part of the selection process. For families with students applying for school captain positions, please save the date – Thursday 14 November – for our 2026 School Captain Speeches.
Finally, I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to all families who continue to support safe and considerate pick-up practices. We really appreciate those who walk in or use the lower part of Rogers Street (off Water Street) to collect their children. We kindly ask families not to use the upper part of Rogers Street (off St Paul’s Terrace) for pick-up unless you are parking and walking down to the gate, as this section of the road is less safe for students and families. Your cooperation helps us keep everyone safe and ensures a smoother end to the school day.
It’s shaping up to be another wonderful term full of learning, leadership and community connection.
